Hi Chris. Just wanted to let you know I picked up one of your Modern
Bosstones from Musictoyz.com. It has all of the juicy overtones I
remember (and some I'd forgotten about) from my first Bosstone back in
1967. Very nice indeed. I thought this fuzztone would be able to be used
only for really fuzzy stuff. Not true. It rivals the tones of my other
units, a Zendrive, a Keeley-modded TS9 and a Keeley-modded BD2.
I'd been monitoring Ebay for a while looking for an old Bosstone, but never felt
like shelling out the 'big bucks' for an old unit when I did find one, not
knowing what shape the elex might be in, etc. It's nice to be able to buy a
'new' unit, which is actually user-friendly!
By the way, I'm a circuit board designer by trade. I've been designing boards
since about 1984. I work for General Dynamics Ordnance & Tactical Systems here
in Healdsburg, CA., designing missile actuator systems. Mostly small,
strangely-shaped boards that need to survive unheard of G-forces, etc., which
all seem to have more parts than can fit in the space required. So, I can
appreciate the subtleties in trying to reverse engineer an old unit, while
trying to keep the old 'mojo' happening as well. Good luck to you with this
venture, and, thanks again for reproducing these units. Fun stuff!
Back in 1967, my guitar player friends and I were using Bosstones. I even had a psychedelic-painted one. Somehow, they all disappeared over
the years, and I've missed them. I was only 13-14 back then, but was
actively playing in local bands. I opened for a Country Joe & The Fish
concert in 1967 here in Santa Rosa, CA, and, of course, was sporting my
Bosstone. I used a Gretsch Country Gentleman through either a single 15"
Standel amp, or a Fender Dual Showman at the time, with just a volume
pedal and the Bosstone off & on.
Take care. I'll be glad to share kind words about your Modern Bosstone
whenever I get the chance.
Thanks so much for reproducing this! Brings back lots of great memories.
Great stuff!
Best regards,
Craig

Chris,
I just wanted to write and tell you how much I love my bosstone. The sound is incredible. I got to be honest with you, at first, I didn't think it was all that special. I thought it was a cool concept piece that would eventually become collectable. That was, until I hooked it up directly to my Keeley modded Tube Screamer. I dialed in my favorite overdriven sound,
switched on the bosstone, added a VERY little gain, and was getting David Gilmour/Eric Johnson type tones.
I've been looking for a fuzz to work with my tube screamer for years and now that search is over.
Thank you so much and keep up the GREAT work.
